"The Parent's Corner" - from Helen Marlais' "Succeeding at the Piano" Method Book Series
Below, author Helen Marlais makes some very salient points concerning the parent's role in helping a student enjoy and get the most out of his/her time and effort spent learning to make music at the piano. She contrasts the value of piano study with issues that inevitably arise concerning a student's work: sustaining motivation, structuring and maintaining a practice schedule, and coping with challenges. While some of the things on this list are similar to a few points we have made in our "Student & Parent Expectations " page this additional perspective will provide parents who are new to piano lessons - as well as those who may have studied in the past - necessary tools to help each student succeed to the best of his/her own personal ability.
